about

1. The Huron Carol is a traditional melody of the Huron Indians, transcribed into Western music notation
(and thus preserved) by a French missionary. Gary Cope arranged this backing track and allowed us to
include it on this CD. The lead sheet based on the original melody is available at
www.flutopedia.com/song_huron_carol.htm. Of course, you could just improvise to the backing track as well.

2. Ether is a piece by Alexander Nakarada (AlexanderNakarada.Bandcamp.com), released under CC-BY.
I have been using it for several years as a backing track in subdued settings such as Yoga and
meditation.

3. Two Descending provides a basic, two-chord vamp. It was used in the FluteCast video on Descending Scales
(December 2020) and is available on YouTube. This album provides that backing track in all twelve keys.

4. Three Chord Vamp is a backing track associated with the FluteCast video fo the same name (March 2020),
available on YouTube.

5. Forest Dinda is a remix of a track I recorded with Mathew Tembo (MathewTembo.com) in Lusaka, Zambia,
March 1, 2007, at Tyme Lyne Studio. Studio engineers were Edwin Kabeba and Ombani M. Sakala (www.facebook.com/tymelyneentertainments/).
This is a Raggamuffin style rhythm played on Mathew's amadinda, with Brazilian forest sounds courtesy of
The British Library.

6. A track featuring the tonkori of Umeko Ando, an traditional Ainu artist from Northern Japan.

7. A track featuring and improvisation by Peter Dubner (keyboard) and Eugene Carr (cello),
recorded in my studio on May 25, 2008. I am playing a very large, very low bansuri flute.

8. A Shruti box providing a steady drone and a 30 BPM rhythm.
